On April 24th, the Alt P.E. class ventured on their third trip of the semester to Ramblewild in Lanesborough, Massachusetts.

Alt P.E. is an alternative physical education class offered at Monument Mountain Regional High School for people wanting a different type of P.E. class. Most of the students are high school seniors who still need another gym credit so that they can graduate, but there are also some juniors in the class too. The class consists of five trips throughout the semester to different places -where students participate in various physical activities.

In February, the class went to Ski Butternut -where they got rained out by the end of the trip; in March they headed to Albany Indoor Rockgym where they learned the fine art of rock climbing.

This new adventure began at 8:30 when all the students corralled in the gym and got ready to embark on their new adventure. After the one hour bus ride to Lanesborough, close to Jiminy Peak Ski Resort, students got a rundown of the park from former Monument gym teacher Luke Bloom.

The students geared up in their high tech harnesses, which contain smart “belays” (when one belay is open, the second will not open until the first closes.).

In the center of the park, there is a central Hub where all of the trails branch out. There are five different difficulty levels: yellow, green, blue, black diamond, and double black diamond. The double black diamond has a 90% failure rate.

John Young, a senior and a student in the class, said, “My favorite part about Ramblewild was not falling when I was on the ropes course. My arms were very sore at the end of the day!”
