The Hunger Games craze reached an all time high when the movie was released on March 23, 2012 at 12:01 a.m. This movie, based off Suzanne Collins’s admired fiction book, stayed very loyal to the novel. A story about a brave teenage girl – Katniss Everdeen – risking her life on behalf of her beloved little sister, captures everyone’s attention and hearts.

In the book and movie, the Hunger Games are an annual event in which a girl and a boy from each of the 12 districts of the fictional Panem are picked to fight to death on live television. Twenty four children ranging from the ages of 12 to 18 are put into a confined arena, fighting to the death and hoping to make it out alive. The catch is that only one victor will be crowned.

The Hunger Games portrays a very strong message to viewers: what just one person can do. Katniss Everdeen shows the world of Panem as she takes the arena in the capitol. This strong, young girl is an inspiration and a fighter. Her never-give-up attitude appeals to all. The movie was also very accurate to the book in all aspects. The character selection and portrayal was phenomenal. From Katniss’s fierce yet pretty appearance, Gale’s strong presence and jaw-dropping looks, all the way to the sloppiness of Haymitch and the extravagant representation of Effie Trinket, the movie depicts it flawlessly.

This film is a must see for all ages. Happy Hunger Games everyone, and “may the odds be ever in your favor!”
