The Monument Mountain Girls Basketball team improved to 3-4 on Tuesday night after defeating Easthampton. The Lady Spartans outscored the Eagles by a score of 35-26.

Senior captain Hailey Higgins scored a team high 12 points in the victory including two three pointers. “I thought I played okay. I was making most of my shots,” stated Higgins. Senior point guard Addie McLaughlin added nine points. Going into the game, the Lady Spartans were expecting an easy win. “We were surprised how well they stuck with us. We were playing down to their level. After halftime we started playing more intensely,” Higgins explained.

The game marks only the second loss of the season for the Eagles. “We heard they only had one other loss this season and we knew they weren’t a very good team,” Higgins added. Despite the victory, the Lady Spartans are still focusing on improving the way they play together. “We need to work on coming together as a team to reach our goals. It’s been hard because we are missing four girls but we need people to step up and fill these roles.”
The Lady Spartans will be back in action on January 10 at Lenox. “We have had a few issues with Lenox lately with our fans and administrators, so it would be really cool if a lot of people could go and be really loud.”
