In the final GS race of the season, senior Micaela Bartlett finished third overall. Bartlett officially booked her ticket to the state competition in March.

The race began with all the seniors on each team being recognized. Each senior was recognized with a few words a including the college they plan on attending and what they will study. “I thought they gave a nice insight into people’s lives and what they will do; it was nice to see,” stated senior Tyler Harrington.

Conditions were ideal for the last race of the season, according to Harrington. The snow wasn’t too icy or too soft and the temperature was in the upper 20’s. “The conditions were optimal,” said Harrington. However, by the end of the race, the course became rutted due to the soft snow. This is where a few ski racers ran into trouble. “The first kid just went through the gate, but the other two hit a patch of ice. There was a hole there and they got launched and landed on the side of the trail,” explained Bartlett.

In the girls’ race Bartlett crossed the finish line with a time of 43.60. Lenox’s Taylor Knight won the race with a time of 43.32 and Ella King placed second with 43.55. “I’m a little disappointed because I was one point away from winning the county,” Bartlett added. However, she was able to look past this race and focus on the future. “I feel pretty confident going into states and I’m ready to work hard.”

In the boys race, Lenox took home first place. The Monument Boy’s Team finished in third place, officially placing them in fourth for the season. “I gave it my all this season, but it wasn’t enough,” said ski racer Matthew Weston,  a second year member of the Alpine Ski Team.
The statewide competition will be held at Wachusett Mountain on March 7th.
